The dental implant procedure typically takes two separate steps. The first step of the dental implant procedure requires the surgical insertion of a titanium artificial tooth root that eventually serves as a permanent foundation for the replacement tooth. After the gums have completely healed around the titanium root, the second step can be completed when an artificial tooth is attached onto the screw. The artificial tooth is extremely similar in texture, function, and size to natural teeth and typically blends in inconspicuously with the rest of your teeth.

Candidacy for Dental Implants

Though dental implants can be a very effective and aesthetically pleasing restorative dentistry procedure, patients must be good candidates to undergo the procedure. Because dental implants require the patient to undergo surgery, the candidate should be in good general health. The ideal candidate also has gums that are healthy and a sufficient amount of bone to support the titanium implants.
